2028: Possible Scenarios Mehvish Ally
Foreign Policy • Iraq- most combat troops out by 2010, Sunni/Shiite based parliament reinstated, with both a Sunni and Shiite prime minister • Iran- after lengthy negotiations led by Obama, Ahmadinejad finally recognizes that the Holocaust did occur, and acknowledges the existence of Israel; uses nuclear plants for energy only • North Korea- Kim Jong dies, amiable socialist state emerges and has nuclear plants for energy use only
Foreign Policy cont’d • More (UN backed) US, EU, AU involvement in Sudan, Nigeria • Cuba- embargos lifted • Travel allowed in banned countries (Iran, N. Korea, Cuba, Colombia)
Gas- tax increased Eventually, marijuana legalized but heavily taxed Taxes used to improve national infrastructure Public transportation more prevalent Ex: monorails, high speed trains College price decreased thanks to Obama’s volunteer/tuition plan Finance
Social Issues • Gay marriage legalized in more states (California yesterday) • Illegal Immigration: pathway to citizenship, worker program. • Spanish becomes an official second language in California, New Mexico, Texas, Florida, and New York. • Less people are on welfare because more jobs are opening up thanks to infrastructure development in rural and older urban areas • People accept their differences and just get along. • Healthcare provided to those who want it • Abortion
No drilling in Alaska, Florida Wide use of solar power, geothermal, nuclear, and other clean/renewable energy sources. China/India- use natural gas for 4 years until renewable energy so prevalent it is cheap enough for India and China to promote and use on a mass scale People apologize to Al Gore Energy/Environment
Foreign Policy • Iraq- combat troops remain, more incidents such as using the Koran for target practice instigate Al Qaeda even more, thus perpetuating the war; military bases remain • Iran/Syria- preemptive strike due to possible sighting of weapons of mass destruction • North Korea-preemptive strike due to possible sighting of weapons of mass destruction
Finance • Gas- taxes lifted, then reinstated, then lifted again; income tax rebates remain • Gas use increases due to lifting of tax, even though renewable resources are being researched and developed more. • Illegal immigration stagnates due to failing economy • Trade deficit continually increases due to oil prices
Social Issues • Gay marriage – constitutional ban, marriage defined a between a man and a woman • Illegal Immigration: billion dollar fence built, but a temporary worker program instilled • Marijuana use increases, despite building of expensive border fence. • Welfare reformed, having stricter policies, but the same amount of people are on welfare • Healthcare will not be a governmental responsibility, but a responsibility of the individual • Roe v Wade overturned
Energy Environment • We begin drilling in Alaska and off the coast of Florida for oil, until those sources are depleted • Wider use of solar power, geothermal, and other clean/renewable energy sources, but only when the gas tax is reinstated • China/India- fight the US for oil from NATO countries, and win the battle • People continue to belittle and deride Al Gore
