What we learned in Reader’s Workshop during September and October
We are readers! • During reader’s workshop we learn about and practice the skills and strategies that avid readers use when they read!
I love reading books about letters! Readers choose books they are interested in.
Strong readers examine the covers of books to help them decide if this is a book that they would like to read.
I think this book might be about a monster?... Readers go on adventures with books. They look at the cover of their book in order to get their brain ready to read.
I think the boy is pretending to be a king . . . Readers take picture walks by looking at the pictures on each page. The picture clues help readers figure out what is happening in the story and what the words might say.
I remember when we read Mrs. Wishy Washy. The animals didn’t like getting washed. I think… Readers make connections between books.
Readers have alone time with their book by sitting back to back
Readers have partner time with their book by sitting hip to hip.
My favorite part was when… Readers talk about their favorite parts of stories with a partner.
Readers are problem solvers. Readers know where to find books that interest them. They ask for help when they need it. Readers can pretend to be the characters in a book.
