Mission Overview • The central avionics of CADRE are included on HA1L and will demonstrate the following capabilities: • Software modes • Sensor and health checkouts • Solar cells charging batteries • UHF commanding and file transfer • Beaconing and GPS tracking • Watchdog-triggered reset • Post-processed attitude determination
Mission Expectations • Expectations at Launch: • Receive beacons every 10sec • Command heartbeat and file downlink • Demonstrate autonomous reset in the absence of heartbeat • Demonstrate charging of batteries from solar panels • Operate CDH, EPS, and COM systems entire flight • Maintain internal (aluminum), external (foam), and antenna structural integrity entire flight • Known Issues at Launch: • No GPS fix (discovered Friday night…) • No ADCS FPGA • No board telemetry points (temperature, voltages)
Mission Performance • Actual Operation: • Receive beacons every 10sec ✔ • Command heartbeat and file downlink ✖ • Demonstrate autonomous reset in the absence of heartbeat✔ • Demonstrate charging of batteries from solar panels ✔ • Operate CDH, Battery, and Com systems entire flight ✔ • Maintain internal (aluminum), external (foam), and antenna structural integrity entire flight ✔
Mission Results Mission Ops • Beacons received every 10 sec with 89.8% packet receipt by ground station. • Observed two autonomous resets by the watchdog timer in telemetry beacon (triggered by actual FCPU errors). • FCPU, power system, and radio beacon operated the entire flight. • Ground system was unable to command the flight payload. Potential causes: • Ground system transmitter was not powerful enough. • Never accounted for effect of noise from board stack inside aluminum enclosure (modeled enclosure only). • Possibly mis-interpreted “chase test” results
Mission Results Battery Charging • Analysis Assumptions: • Same power load during testing and operation • Battery discharge profile is linear over this time period
Mission Results Structural Integrity Solar Panels in great shape! Antenna holding strong!
