  4. Opening: • Tom needs some help sharing his treats because he “likes to be fair when he shares.” • Help Tom discover a strategy that he can use when he is sharing. • Begin with Level 1 and work through Level 5 (one copy per pair) • Feel free to use anything in the room for help.

  5. Objective: using the levelized problems, help Tom find a strategy that will help him equally share his treats.

  6. Work Time • What is the whole? How do you know? • How is this fair? • Is this more than, equal to or less than one whole? • Are these two pieces the same? • What is your strategy? How do you know it works? • Can you see anything in the room that might help you? • Is there a math tool that you could go get that would help you? • Do you agree with your partner? Why or Why not?

  7. Closing Gallery Walk Discussion Can you explain how you got your answer? How do you know that strategy works? Did anyone get the same answer? Did you use the same method to get your answer? Agree or Disagree and Why
