At most many of the communities where mining industries set in, experience: Collapse of cultural and traditional structures Local Economic practices alteration asserting poverty Loss of grazing land to the locals Health issues Local Health cares facilities are strained by influx of migrant worker. HIV/AIDS rise is synonymous in the proximity of Mining industries Respiratory ailments are reported in most mining area Social impact
Social Impacts social politics Community conflicts and division Relocation of communities Breed Corruption Housing Poor housing for workers (Lesiba seshoka(NUM,Spokes Person): SAFM news Tuesday 25th may- Confirmed that worker stays in shack, receive no housing/ insuficient allowence)
Impact on the river systems, affluence from industries spills into rivers. Lands are left sterilised by mine dumps and other mining methods (open pit/cast mining) Under ground water pollution By underground mining Air pollution from refineries and tailing dams. (Lack of monitoring capacity) Environmental Impact
Mining has great negative impact on the agricultural economy Communities are benefiting little in the Employment Economic benefits are not realised by local communities Because of some severe environmental impact the communities closer to mining experience poverty Economic Impact
Little development is seen in the affected communities Infrastructure of the community close to the mines are poor. Developments are brought in through pressure Other development are brought to green wash or to win some section of society in fostering division. Insufficient housing Local Development
