GGSPS status Andy Smith RAL GIST 26: Abingdon
Outline • Edition 1 release and reprocessing • Operations: GERB-1 and 2 archive stats, problems • Progress on new development • Future work GIST 26: Abingdon
Reprocessing & release Status at last GIST meeting: • L2 ARG June 2006 to present released • L1.5 NANRG 2004-5 reprocessing proceeding slowly • Concerns about QA effort and delay to release GIST 26: Abingdon
Reprocessing & release Reprocessing • L1.5 2004-5 reprocessing & QA completed Jan 07 • Met new timescale agreed at last GIST Release of the L1.5 NANRG • Oct 2005 to present released Jan 07 • 2004-5: rolling release – needs L1.5 geo data from RMIB L2 reprocessing • “Wash-up” tasks: re-order of missed L0 data for 2004-5 to give more complete Edition 2 data set GIST 26: Abingdon
Edition 1 data available All L1.5 data reprocessed: 2 years’ data available 18 months’ L2 ARG data available for download GIST 26: Abingdon
Special data sets Excluded from Ed01, available separately via GGSPS web pages • L2 ARG Feb-March 2004 (clear-sky warm-up) • L1.5 1-16th Feb 2004 (pre TSOL jitter) Both above include Ernesto’s Feb 04 validation period Ops team only: • L2 solar eclipses March, Sept 2006 • L2 data affected by counting data (several periods) GIST 26: Abingdon
Ed01 data coverage Reduced Ed01 data coverage: • Mirror events: counting data (~1 day) • Direct stray light close to midnight (hours) • High % of corrupt/missed packets (hrs/days) • Quartz Filter anomaly (1 or 2 products) • Mirror pointing anomaly (1 product) • Sensor swaps (1 product) Products picked up in QA are “pulled” from Edition 1 (GERB-1 products not pulled – no data released) GIST 26: Abingdon
Ops: G1 archive stats GIST 26: Abingdon
Ops: problems Problems affecting L0 data and NRT processing: • Satellite off & instrument data corruption • PGS antenna, EUM maintenance • RAL power & local network • RAL-EUMETSAT leased line • high impact, only partially under our control: • can be intermittent, packet %ages don’t reflect number of affected products • move to SFTP over internet may solve this (and may introduce new problems) GIST 26: Abingdon
Operations GERB-2 catalogue database • L0 table large, performance problems • Created difficulties in processing backlogs of data after outages • Tables split into current/historic to reduce impact Software: • Corrupt data and intermittent line breaks revealed new data handling bugs GIST 26: Abingdon
New development Oct - April • Oct – Feb: reprocessing • Feb – Apr: ongoing Release & (dual) Ops work… • Initial planning of Linux port, bid submitted • Ported system needed for GERB-3, but funding constraints may require work completed much sooner • SFTP of L0 data from EUMETSAT to RAL • TSOL jitter data in GERB packet GIST 26: Abingdon
Future work • SFTP of L0 data & TSOL jitter data in GERB packet – ~4 months to complete • Linux port: ~1 staff year • Possible L1.5 processing improvements: MB talk • Further product releases: L2 BARG etc • Level 2 Monthly Means GIST 26: Abingdon
