GGSPS Processing Update Martin Bates, RAL GIST 25 23rd October, 2006
Contents • What is in/out for Edition 1 • stray light bug • QA checks and pull list • Future Updates • GERB1 Processing
Stray Light Bug • Affects flagging of products affected by stray light • Error in implementation of equation of time • error of up to 34 minutes in flagging (varies with time of year) • Discovered May 2006, too late to fix for Edition 1 • some data already processed • Major anomalies (products removed from dataset) • update data table, remove products over a wider time range • pull extra products from data already processed • also needed to increase date range • Minor anomalies (products kept in dataset, but flagged) • use time ranges given in quality summary rather than flags in product • Fix for next release !! • and recharacterise stray light as more data now available
QA Data removed from Edition1 for the following reasons: • Stray light • Quartz Filter Anomaly • Counting data • SW calibration affected by counting data • Unflagged pixel damage • Solar Eclipse (Level 2 only) • Mirror pointing anomaly • Pointing anomaly • SOL Jitter • FEE r/out problems
Pull List • Pull list • http://ggsps.rl.ac.uk/docs/auth/Edition1_pull.txt • links also from products page • Note a few products pulled late, others released late • lists of these also available from products page
Beyond Edition1 • (Geolocation) • sftp / TSOL Jitter in packet (Edition 1) • axis misalignments, optical model ... • improvements to fixed column spacing ? • flag mirror (+ other) pointing errors • Fix equation of time bug • recharacterise stray light • improved removal/flagging of stray light ? • Flag Counting Data • Fix incorrect flagging of byte-shift data • SW Calibration Algorithm • non-zero BB SW radiance • BB Stray Light + handling of offset
GERB-1 Processing • Same software as GERB-2 • Preliminary versions of calib. tables • based on Sep 2003 calibration tests • Scan mirror non-parallel N/S (~0.58 pixels) • data table parameter covers this • J. Hanafin has measured N/S and E/W offsets from dedicated calibration scans • Initial geolocation tuning performed • Still to characterise stray light
