Objectives Experimental determination of the phase behaviour, interfacial tensions (IFT) and the viscosity of the systems pertinent to hydrocarbon gas separation processes. Measurement of the thermodynamic and transport properties of the resulting phases. Experiments will be performed at relevant high-pressure gas processing conditions (T, P, x). Acquired data (including literature data) will be modelled with the appropriate thermodynamic models.
Modelling Approaches Interfacial Tension Prediction Methods: A growing number of new theoretical methods have been established to solve the interfacial phenomena. Due to their complexity, a number of the methods used to predict IFTs, are unsuitable for engineering applications. • Viscosity Prediction Methods: • The viscosity models range from highly theoretical to simple empirical correlations • Many viscosity models are only suitable for predicting accurately either the liquid or the gas phase viscosity.
Conclusions & Activity Plan In spite of the importance of transport properties and interfacial properties in engineering design, our understanding of such properties is inferior to that of phase equilibrium properties. Specific Objectives for Current Year Critical evaluation of the literature data. Selection of systems to be experimentally measured. Evaluation and redesign of existing experimental apparatuses. Reproduce data of systems previously studied by several investigators. Evaluation of a MSc project(s) to test the ability of MD simulations to predict the h and g of the studied systems.
