  3. Symmetrix 5671 Microcode - SRDF • SRDF/A • Manage multiple SRDF/A sessions & multiple symms • Identify the RDF group • RDF1 or RDF2 • Sessions can be dual directional - one group (session) can be RDF1 while another can be RDF2 • Device types cannot be mixed within an RDF group, they must all have the same personality • SRDF/A with concurrent RDF support (SRDF/A and Synch) • The views and reports will support multiple mirrors within SRDF/A • Switch SRDF/A modes • Asynchronous, adaptive copy, and synch modes

  4. Symmetrix 5671 Microcode – SRDF Cont’d • Support dynamic RDF commands on SRDF/A devices • Set parameters that affect the behavior/resources of an SRDF/A session • maximum cache • minimum cycle time • maximum host throttle values for SRDF/A • reflected in the displays and reports on SRDF/A devices/groups • Provide alerts on par with SYMEVENTS for SRDF/A

  5. Symmetrix 5671 Microcode – SRDF UI

  6. Symmetrix 5671 Microcode - TimeFinder • Launch Timefinder and Clone operations from active SRDF/A R2 volume • No SNAP yet • Provide Support for RAID-5 BCV • Create RAID-5 BCV's • via SYMAPI emulation mode using the TF Clone • Up to 8 concurrent BCV s without using STD mirror positions • Support for instant restore and establish • same mechanism used by the instant split • Allow establish of concurrent BCV without specifying BCV • Group mode operations could not be used to create a concurrent BCV pair because the second BCV needed to be explicitly specified. • Specify that I want to establish concurrent BCVs and without specifically naming the BCVs

  7. Symmetrix 5671 Microcode – TimeFinder Cont’d • Save Pool Enhancements • Dynamically add/remove devices from a pool • Indicate which pool to use for the session. • Identify what Save pool a Save device belongs to • Create a Save Pool for use in Snap Sessions • Report on multiple Symmetrix Save devices • % Full and Device State • Alert generated upon pool capacity thresholds being reached

  8. Symmetrix 5671 Microcode – TimeFinder UI

  9. Symmetrix 5671 Microcode – Create New Save Device

  10. Symmetrix 5671 Microcode – New Save Pool

  11. Symmetrix 5671 Microcode – TimeFinder Cont’d • Support Clone enhancements • Create a Copy Clone Session • with or without the differential flag • Create a Pre-Copy Clone Session • with or without the differential flag • Establish a clone session • with or without copy, pre-copy, and differential flags • Recreate a Copy Clone Session • Incremental establish of a Copy Clone Session • Restore a Clone session • full or incremental • Set the mode of a clone session • copy, no-copy, or pre-copy

  12. Symmetrix 5671 Microcode – TimeFinder Cont’d • Set mode • Support changing mode after creation but before activation of session • copy (copy initiates at activation) • no-copy (copy on access) • pre-copy (copy on activate) • Remote operations - copy devices on a remote Symmetrix • Establish - recreate and activate or create and activate in one step • Terminate oldest session

  13. CLONE Create, Activate, Recreate, Restore, Set Mode

  14. Create CLONE Session UI

  15. Set Symmetrix Attributes UI

  16. StorageScope • StorageScope's replica capacity metrics support Symmetrix clone based implementation of RAID-5 BCVs. • 5671 SRDF enhancements will not affect replica reporting • Support 16K devices in the storage device reports • If you plan to install StorageScope along with SP2, install StorageScope 5.2 FIRST, before applying SP2.

  17. CLARiiON Features • CLARiiON host registration updated • failover mode • ArrayComm Path • Unit Serial Number • FLARE Release 16 tolerance • SP2 Storage Agent for CLARiiON REQUIRED for Flare 16 • StorageScope reports include this new information

  18. CLARiiON Host Registration

  19. SAN Manager Features • SP2 FCC agent MUST BE INSTALLED in an SP2 infrastructure • Show Domain Port Zoning in Masking View • Provide iSCSI device masking for HBA initiators • Native only • Uni-directional Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) • You must use version 2.02.17 of the Fibrezone Bridge if: • Installation with McDATA switches with Service Pack 2 • to import nicknames from McDATA, CNT, and Interop Fabrics. • Device Masking Pending icon • For masking done through ControlCenter • Will not realize CLI pending commands • Pulsar Switch Tolerance • display the switch and model information

  20. SAN Manager Features – Pending Masking Operation Icon

  21. SAN Manager Features – Path Details View – Object Selection Header

  22. ARM – Storage Provisioning Services Features • “Details of Proposed Path” • dialog box appears regardless of whether it found devices or not • Show Log • Allocation Request Details log • Steps through the SPS algorithm • Primary Analysis section • appears at the end of the log • for failed requests • Show Details • Which specific devices SPS evaluated for your request

  23. ARM – Storage Provisioning Services Features

  24. ARM – Storage Provisioning Services - Show Log – Show Details

  25. ARM – Storage Provisioning Services - Primary Analysis

  26. General Features • Support 16K devices • dialogs • tabular views • visual views • selection boxes • Symmetrix Manager • Provide support for remaining NDU configuration options • set GIG-e port attributes • set CKD alias • modify Symmetrix port settings from within ControlCenter • Oracle Discovery “manual method” • New script “manualinstall.sql” replaces sys8.sql and oraagent8.sql

  27. General Features • Optimizer support for Enginuity 5671 (8K devs max) • Performance Manager handles 16K devices • maximum elapse time should not exceed 2 minutes • Improve how BS2000 hosts are handled by ControlCenter • Navigation Tree • Display under a "BS2000/OSD" group (moved from Unix) • Topology View • Properties View • BS2000/OSD Groups for Devices and Volumes • Volume Serial Numbers • Number of CPUs • Memory size • Volume states • VOLSER column added

  30. Support Drops Drop SP2 support for the following: • Solaris 2.6 and 2.7 • Vendor Drop Support Date: Q1-01 and Q1-03 • Windows NT4.0 • Vendor Drop Support Date: Dec-03 • AIX 4.3.3 • Vendor Drop Support Date: Dec-03 • Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 2.1 and ES 2.1 • Dropped from support by Solutions Enabler • ControlCenter will notify users • agents cannot be upgraded to the newer version of ECC • allow backward compatibility with the 5.2 and 5.2 SP1 agents (n minus 2)

  31. Agent to Solutions Enabler to Microcode Story • SP2 Storage Agent for Symmetrix = Solutions Enabler 6.0 • New API calls utilized only available in SE 6.0 • 5671 microcode with new features usable in Console • Need SP2 Agent • Need Solutions Enabler 6.0 • 5671 microcode without new features via ControlCenter • SP2 agent optional (but SE 6.0 required if used) • Tolerant to SE 5.5 with SP1 Symmetrix Agent • SP2 SDM Agent • Requires Solutions Enabler 6.0 • SP2 SDM agent is required for 5671 arrays

  32. P + S Guidelines - 16K Device Story for Symmetrix • Customers deploying SP2 but do not have 16K Symm • No change in HW config for single-host or distributed configurations • 1 GB of max heap does not require a HW upgrade across board • Only BCV/RDF Status policy for Symmetrix has to be changed (from 5 min to 10 min) when a Symm agent is managing more than 4 medium Symms • We can still do 20 medium Symms when the agent is installed on a dedicated agent host. • Configuration and BCV/RDF Status policies has to be slowed down a little bit • Customer upgrading to SP2 and owns 16K Symm • 1 GB max heap for Symms with 16K devices & 16K front end mappings • If 16K Symm has more than 16K front end mappings, heap size should be increased to 1.5 GB • Store component running on a 2 GB of RAM host should be just okay for this but no additional agents will be allowed on such store hosts • REVIEW FINAL Performance and Scalability Guidelines document upon GA • ANY HEAP SIZE CHANGE IS TO BE DONE VIA SAC/CS

  33. P + S Guidelines - 16K Device Story for Symmetrix • “All-in-one” configuration will not support Symm and SDM agents managing 16K Symm • Up to 2 16K Symms can be managed by one Symm agent installed on a dedicated agent host • Number of agents than can be installed on a dedicated Store host may change based on the configuration of the Symm that the agent is managing • Symmetrix Optimizer • supported for up to 8000 devices • REVIEW FINAL Performance and Scalability Guidelines document upon GA • ANY HEAP SIZE CHANGE IS TO BE DONE VIA SAC/CS
