  3. History of Italy The city of Rome was founded in 625 B.C. In 1946, citizens vote to end monarchy and create a republic. In 1796, Napoleon Bonaparte invades 0 2006 In 1922, dictator Benito Mussolini takes power In 1999, adopts the Euro as the currency Roman Empire splits into 2 in 329 A.D.

Government • The goal of the Olympics is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play so by allowing all citizens equal freedoms and rights, there can be no discrimination or limitations. • The government allows freedom to show all aspects of the Olympic games.

Economics • Imports: engineering products, chemicals, transport equipment, energy products, minerals and nonferrous metals, textiles and clothing; food, beverages, and tobacco (369.2 million) • Exports: Grapes, olives, other fruits, wheat, machinery, iron and steel, chemicals, packaged foods, motor vehicles, clothing, footwear, ceramics (371.9 million)

  8. Economics • Because the economy is diverse, the Olympics will help foster a growth in all industries. • Italy exports more than imports which shows the strength of the economy. • Italy’s industry of tourism is strong so it will help tourists and athletes feel comfortable with the area

  15. Geography • This maps show the total weekly precipitation of the area. Italy is mostly brown and yellow which means that it receives between 10-25 inches in a week. Thematic map

  16. Italy and Torino • Climate: hot summers and very cold winters • Landforms: A boot-shaped peninsula surrounded by four seas. The remaining land is mostly mountainous and quite rugged. Mt. Etna volcano (on Sicily) is currently active. Rivers include the Arno, Po and Tiber, as well as the Adige. • Longitude/latitude: 42° 50'N, 12° 50'E • Population: 58,077,400 (2005) -Torino (851,000)
