Major Initiatives at PBS • Internal - Media Operations Center (MOC) • Workflow modifications • Increased API, SOAP and Web Service calls to manage and expand file delivery to distribution outlets • Continuing to increase the number of publishing outlets • Like everyone, we’re going to where the viewers are • Internal – Network Operations Center (NOC) • Automating internal alerts in the Increase performance and availability w/o increasing costs • Power & HVAC upgrade at the NOC Hollywood Post Alliance Technology Retreat

Near term-Major Initiatives at PBS • External - File delivery from Producers • Multiple submission formats being considered and tested at PBS • Developing automated workflow and technology behind it for file delivery • Need to define wrapper and essence Hollywood Post Alliance Technology Retreat
Future File Submission Workflow • Query and automated check-in process • Add to Transfer Queue • Metadata to be added at staging • process prior to entering MOC • Registration to occur in MAM Metadata QC/Arrival Notice MOC
Near term-Major Initiatives at PBS • External – Next Generation Interconnection System (NGIS) • Non-real-time file delivery to all stations • Will be placing systems at stations to receive, store, and transcode (as necessary) files • In Alpha test now • Change in the distribution codec • MPEG2 to MPEG4 (encoders, station IRDs) • Timetable: During the next 12 months Hollywood Post Alliance Technology Retreat

Other Projects • PTV created a “Quality Group” in an attempt to improve technical quality of productions • Cornerstone is a series of workshops around the country (San Fran, Twin Cities, Boston, Nashville, New York, Vegas) • Web site collection of presentations and videos of workshops (www.pbsconnect.org/qualitygroup) • Testing subgroup Hollywood Post Alliance Technology Retreat
PBSKIDS.org • PBSKIDS.org was the number one video site for kids video streams in January. Nearly five million kids watched over 104 million video streams. • PBSKIDS video viewers spent over 54 minutes watching video in January, nearly twice as many minutes as the average for the kids category. • In January, PBSKIDS set a new monthly traffic record with over 10 million unique visitors. PBS.org • Nearly 14 million visits in January • More than 5.3 million videos viewed in January, a new monthly record • Over 1 million of those streams on iPhone and iPad apps • PBS.org video viewers spend nearly 52 minutes a month watching video Hollywood Post Alliance Technology Retreat
