Since March 2002 meeting • Filed Comments in Support of the WECA Petition with the FCC (RR-02-043r2) • Participated in an ex parte meeting with FCC OET to discuss the potential interference impact of RF Lighting (something that’s been relatively dormant for nearly 2 years, but has become active at the FCC again, with a draft Report and Order circulating to the Commissioners’ offices for review) Carl R. External events: WECA 5 GHz • Petition still has not been put on public notice by the FCC • WECA Regulatory Committee considering strategy and working on sharing studies with an outside radar consultant • Collaborating to a degree with ETSI BRAN on sharing studies • NTIA/ USG Radar community “less than cooperative” Carl R. External events: US WRC-03 • IWG5 approved Draft US Proposal on Agenda Item 1.5 (5 GHz RLAN allocation) • Unanimous approval with the exception of an objection from the ARRL on 5650-5725 MHz • FCC WAC did not pass the Draft Proposal forward to the FCC, due to ARRL objection • CRS and others will have a meeting with the WAC Chairman and ARRL representatives on May 20 in Washington, DC – don’t expect compromise, but expect proposal to move forward at the next WAC meeting • NTIA/USG Radar community “less than cooperative” Carl R. Objectives for Sydney • Continue work on 802.18 Charter and TAG rules changes (working with Chairs of 802.11 and 802.15 here, then with Chair of 802.16 by e-mail) • To prepare and submit other position statements • Prepare Opposition to ARRL challenge to FCC authority to authorize Part 15 devices (oppose ARRL’s Petition for Reconsideration in ET Docket 98-156) • Prepare comments in response to NPRM (ET 02-98) which proposes to elevate the Amateur Radio Service to Primary allocation status in 2400-2402 MHz and to add a Primary allocation to the Amateur Satellite Service in the same band (assuming NPRM available) • Consider options and possiby prepare draft text of a Petition for Reconsideration in the RF Lighting proceeding • To hold joint meetings with TGh, TGg and WNG SC (and any 802.15 TGs that want a joint meeting) Carl R.
