Our First Day: Visiting an orphanage on Mt. Xena Their beds: Slept at least 2 per bed The kids were so excited to see mzungus (white ppl)! The view from the back
David brought a whole bag of Dum Dums to share… they were super excited! Showing them how to eat ‘em!
Steven (15 yrs old) & I were partners for the week and assigned to the beautiful village of Gatunguru. The view from the top of the village, a former rebel base camp, so they left a lot of widows & orphans here.

Bikers like to hold on to the back of trucks when coming up a hill or if they get lazy, just like this while other cars/trucks are passing them. I, however, saw this turn very dangerous when a biker wasn’t paying attention and flung off the back of a truck and slid w/the bike to the other side of the road, hitting another biker, which stopped him for flying off the side of a hill.
Marina & the boys left after the first week. The Fab 4 that remained behind held a pastors’ conference before we headed to the countryside for week 2. We also planned on cooking them an “American meal” as part of the conference, so we went to the local market to haggle some fresh produce.
David & I built a makeshift kitchen outside and started cooking, trying our best to keep things sanitary. Randy was leading the pastors’ conference right next to us, under a tent. Final product- pasta, wild rice, avocado, roll Pastors & wives Pastor Jeremy translating for Randy Pastor Moses, former witch doctor that used to killed people for a living.
The conference group. Pastor Jeremy brought me up to share about his joy in seeing a Chinese Christian and ends up praying in front of these people for me to find a husband. One of the wives, Joy, came up to me and said this time next year I would have one. We’ll see if she’s a true “prophet.” Hah. And this ends week one! Joy
