TAFE Admission Centre • Single application for all FT training in TAFE network • Merit Based Selection • Course entry selection criteria • Co-ordination of applications and offers
Entrance Requirements • Entrance Requirements are the lowest level of school results you need to be allowed into a full time course at TAFE • These could be a lower qualification, eg a cert II in Disability Work could be the entrance requirement for a cert IV in Disability Work
Communication & Maths Skills • Level of Communication Skills & Maths Skills are measured according to ‘dots’ • One Dot = basic skills • Two Dots = developed skills • Three Dots = well developed skills • Four Dots = highly developed skills
Benchmarks • To work out if a student meets Communication/Maths skills benchmarks for the course they are interested in there are Evidence Guides and a Skills Calculator online
Evidence Guides • Tell you what documents you can provide to the TAFE Admissions Centre to prove you meet the required level of Maths/Communication Skills • Examples include school results, other tests (STAT etc), other qualifications (TAFE, Uni) or Bridging Courses (CGE, fast track)
Selection Criteria • Academic or other criteria which are used to score eligible applicants competing for entry into a particular course. • Examples could include work experience, industry involvement, current & previous employment
How to address Selection Criteria • Qualification pathway (Maximum Score=29) • Work Experience (Maximum Score=29) • Education (Maximum Score=42)
Selection Criteria-evidence • For Work Experience – pay slips, group certificate • For Secondary Education scoring is based on best three paired unit combinations – one of which must be English, Literature, EALD • Can be over year 11 &/or year 12 • Folios required for some courses
AQF/TAFE QUALIFICATIONS Another pathway for Year 12 students into some Universities. Achievement of: • Certificate IV and • WACE and • University competence in English
Fast Track to University • Central TAFE has agreements with the universities to allow for entry into degree courses for graduates of Diploma/Advanced Diploma courses • These students also receive credit transfers for courses with an official articulation arrangement with a university (see brochure)
Canning College • Offer Diplomas that provide a pathway to 2nd Year of Bachelor Degree at Curtin University • Eg Diploma of Commerce is equivalent to 1sy year of Commerce degree • Bonus – small class size
Alternative Entry to University • Programs offered by the universities for students who do not have the required ATAR for university entry
Curtin University • Enabling Course in Science & Engineering • Aboriginal Bridging Course • Indigenous Tertiary Enabling Program • Uni Ready Enabling Program
Science Engineering Enabling Course • Selection based on assessment of personal portfolio and interview • School grades, TAFE qualifications, community involvement can contribute • One year full time
Aboriginal Bridging Course - Curtin • Preparation for mainstream studies • Interview required • 1 Year FT
Indigenous Tertiary Enabling Course - Curtin • Course provides skills required to make the transition to university • Units in indigenous studies, numeracy, communications and a choice of humanities, science or art based units • 6 Months full time
Uni Ready Enabling Program • Enables students to matriculate into Curtin and other universities • Applicants are required to be 18 years of age • Submit 500 word personal statement • Study online • One semester full time
Curtin International College • Provides pathways into courses at Curtin University • Offers cert IV, Diploma level courses • Progression into year 2 of Curtin bachelor degrees if good grades achieved in Diploma
Edith Cowan University • University Preparation Course • Portfolio Entry
Uni Prep Course - ECU • 6 months FT, FREE! • Prepares students for university level study • Pathway to select university courses • English Language Competence (scaled mark of 50 or grade of A,B or C in a Year 12 English stage 2 and above or • A grade in English 1C/1D required
Portfolio Entry - ECU • Assesses students ability to succeed in higher education based on portfolio of evidence • For students who do not achieve an ATAR or one high enough for chosen course • Provides entry into select university degrees

On Track • 12 week Pre University Course • For students who have suffered major disruption to their studies in year 12 and have supporting documents
Access South West • For students who are in year 12 and are studying in the Peel or Rockingham areas • Special Consideration program
Murdoch University Preparation Course • Run by Murdoch Institute • For students who require an ATAR – students study a foundation year that can prepare them for entry into any Murdoch Course • Fee paying course • MIT also runs Diploma courses that provide entry into 2nd year of some bachelor degrees
UWA • Uway • CountryWay • ATSI Pathways – provisional entry, Aboriginal orientation courses
UWA - UWAY • Provides Special Entry based on disadvantage experienced • Adjusts ATAR according to disadvantage suffered – range of criteria • Still need to satisfy ELC requirements of UWA • Apply by 30 September
CountryWay - UWA • Allows students from rural high schools whose mark falls between 76.00 and the UWA minimum ATAR to be considered for select courses (Science) • Need to satisfy ELC and Maths pre-req • No Application required
Provisional Entry Scheme - UWA • Indigenous students who have completed WACE but who do not have a sufficiently high ATAR to enter preferred course.
Aboriginal Orientation Course - UWA • Students who receive at least 65% in all their subjects • Year long University Preparation course including course electives in area of choice, eg Science, Arts, Commerce
University Of Notre Dame • Tertiary Enabling Program • Foundation Year
Tertiary Enabling Program • For students who did not receive an ATAR • Personal Statement required • Like a university preparation program – 6 month FT • Mix of units in program – two streams, business/education humanities or nursing & life sciences • Provides entry into certain bachelor’s degrees
Foundation Year • Provides opportunity to apply for entry into undergraduate studies on completion (only certain uni courses) • 1 Year course • Evidence required – disadvanatge, disruption to studies, no or low ATAR
