  1. The Candike Bar The Can Challenge

  2. The Goal The goal is to build an insulated container that keeps the can inside warm, while the container is sitting in an ice bath.

  3. Materials • Cardboard • Perlite Beads • Silver Insulation Tape • Model Magic • Emergency Blanket

  4. Why? • We chose these materials because… • Cardboard- good outer layer • Perlite beads- contains the heat in between the insulation tape, and the cardboard. • silver insulation tape- helps seal everything, while insolating the container. • Model magic- makes sure that no heat escapes from the top. • Emergency blanket-reflects the heat back onto the can.

  5. Procedure • Collect all of the needed materials. • Cut four rectangles, and two squares out of cardboard. • Hot glue all of the rectangles together to form a 3-D object. • Hot glue one square to the bottom of the object, and hot glue one side of the others to form a flappy lid. • Cut out a rectangle, and circle piece of emergency blanket. • Hot glue the two ends of the rectangle together to form a sleeve for the can.

  6. Procedure(cont.) 7)Hot glue the circle to the bottom of the sleeve. 8)Wrap the sleeve in insolation tape. 9) Place the insulation tape sleeve in the card board box. 10)Fill the corner wholes in with perlite. 11)Wrap the whole cardboard container in insulation tape. 12) Put model magic on the inside and the out side of the lid, to make a barrier.

  7. Procedure(cont.) 13)Fill up the can with boiling water and put thermometer in the can. 14)Put the can and thermometer in the container. 15)Place the container in a plastic bag 16)Place the container in the ice bath. 17)Wait 20 minutes. 18)Watch the temperature go down and record the results. 19)Clean up!

  8. Conclusion • Our design worked well, but there could have been some improvements. Such as… • Cork instead of some of the insulation tape. • Some Styrofoam in with the perlite beads • Rubber mat to absorb the heat.

  9. Thank you!
