  4. Students • Portland: commuter, graduate Biddeford: residential, undergraduate

  5. No food or drink allowed. Libraries open an average of 93 hours/week. Students working without full-time staff evenings/weekends. Limited 24-hour space elsewhere on campus. Pre-24/5

  6. Students want to study in the library! Student requests for longer library hours.

  7. Rationalization for not going 24-hours: two libraries to staff, some campus space already 24-hours, many library resources available electronically.

  8. Decided to stop saying “No” “The Best Thing a Library Can Be Is Open.”

  9. Best Practices Suggested: Building Security & Safety.

  10. Best Practices Suggested (cont.): Available food and drinks. Use staff members, not students.

  11. We got both. University of New England President Danielle Ripich Moving forward required: Funding Presidential buy-in

  12. But … with student staffing.

  13. Money to students for library jobs is good for admissions & retention.

  14. 24/5 in full swing by October, 2010, and continuing to work beautifully.

  15. Laurie Mathes Amanda Leen Circulation Coordinators are the keys to this success.

  16. Student workers – Library is their home away from home.

  17. Marketing for campus consciousness.

  18. We couldn’t do it without: Security IT Facilities Housekeeping

  19. The libraries now.

  20. Up All Night – and going strong.
