DAIRYING, POULTRY, BEE KEEPING ETC. • CAPACITY BUILDING OF EXTENSION WORKERS AND FARMERS THROUGH TRAINING FOR DISSEMINATION OF LATEST CROP PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY. • TIMELY SUPPLY OF QUALITY CERTIFIED SEEDS AND PLANTING MATERIAL. IMPROVEMENT IN SEED REPLACEMENT RATIO (SRR). • ASSURED AND TIMELY SUPPLY OF FERTILIZERS AND THEIR BALANCED USE BASED ON SOIL TEST. • INTODUCTION OF BIO-FERTILIZERS - ONE VILLAGE PER BLOCK TO BE ADOPTED AS BIO-VILLAGE FOR MASS DEMONSTRATIONS. • ENCOURGE THE EFFICIENT USE OF AVAILABLE IRRIGATION SUPPLIES.

TRANSPLANTING ON RAISED BEDS, DIRECT SEEDING, UNPUDDLED TRANSPLANTING AND SRI • ASSURED SUPPLY OF CANAL WATER AND ELECTRICITY (FOR 8 HOURS) • USE OF LEAF COLOR CHARTS FOR NEED BASED APPLICATION OF NITROGENUS FERTILIZERS. • 250 FARMERS FIELD SCHOOLS TO BE ORGANIZED FOR IPM.

COTTON • THRUST AREAS • EMPHASIS ON CULTIVATION OF Bt COTTON HYBRIDS. • ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF CANAL WATER DURING APRIL FOR TIMELY SOWING OF COTTON. • PROMOTION OF IPM ON COTTON IN PPP MODE UNDER SRTT PROJECT OF • REVIVING GREEN REVOLUTION AND VILLAGE CLUSTER ADOPTION PROJECT OF • VARDHMAN GROUP IN 162 VILLAGES. • SUPPLY OF QUALITY PESTICIDES AND THEIR EFICIENT USE.

NEW INITIATIVES • Agriculture Diversification and Development Fund with a corpus of Rs.20.00 set-up to undertake research on new crops, their processing and marketing. • Four special purpose vehicles (SPV) i.e. Council for Citrus Juices, Council for Value Added Horticulture, Council for Viticulture and Council for Organic Farming set-up to provide impetus to diversification efforts. • Punjab State Farmers Commission has been set-up to prepare a blue print for diversification of State Agriculture and improvement of socio-economic statues of farmers.

  22. NEW INITIATIVES • Contact Farming of basmati, maize, summer moong etc. has been undertaken during kharif and hoyla, durum wheat in rabi. • University of Animal Sciences being set-up to ensure diversification to allied activities like dairy and fisheries. • Super Thermal Power Plant being set-up at Coal Pit Head in Chhatissgarh by NTPC to dedicate 1500 MW of power. • Legislation for Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM) is proposed to regulate the working of water users associations for efficient O&M of surface irrigation systems.

  23. AGRICULTURE EXTENSION REFORMS • Organization of Farmer Training Programme on Scientific Crop Production at district, block and village level. KVKs being actively involved in training and FLDs’. • SEWP of 2005-06 prepared and approved by Govt. of India. The scheme being implemented in the State. • SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY at State level and ATMAS’ at district level has been registered to implement the scheme. Second installment distributed to districts. • SREP of district Amritsar and Patiala prepared and for the remaining two districts to be submitted shortly. • Response to KCC is encouraging. Farmers demand accessibility to 1551 from mobile phones. Need to increase existing lines at level-1 from 3 to 6. The provision of cell phones with incoming facility to the experts at level II is required for escalation of calls to level II. • Two crop seminars organized under Mass Media Support to Agriculture by DD Jalandhar.

  24. AMENDMENT OF APMC ACT • APMC act has been amended to permit setting up private marketing infrastructure. • The rules to regulate such markets and incentives to be provided to such investors are being finalized.

  25. RISK MANAGEMENT • ICICI Lombard has insured the farmers crop for weather risk in 5 districts during kharif 2005 (Paddy) as well as in 8 districts during rabi 2005-06 (Wheat). • Efforts will be made to cover more farmers during 2006-07 in collaboration with AIC of India by providing assistance in premium Under Work Plan for Macro Management of Agriculture .
