Technology of Mohenjo-Daro By Alisha, Eleanor, Lena and Mike
Thesis • In the Indus Valley, many ancient pieces of technology have been recovered. Researchers have found that some of the technology is far more advanced than that of other cultures, while other tools were about even with those of other civilizations.
Public Baths • The Great Bath of Mohenjo-Daro is the first public bath in recorded history. • 240 cm deep, 1200 cm long, and 700 centimeters long • The floor was watertight, because of plaster sealed bricks. • This is very advanced for the time period
Architecture • The city was organized like a grid, similar to the modern cities we know today. • The bricks used for building were uniform, allowing for more advanced architecture, and a tighter seal between the bricks. • Houses were equipped with drains, that led into a common sewer, to rid the city of excess precipitation and waste.
Art • Cones: not sure about use but they could have been plum-bobs, toys or writing utensils • Sculptures were carved or molded with sharp metal or stone tools, such as chisels and drills. • Beads were created from small molds. • This art is primitive in comparison to Egyptian hyroglyphs and beautiful idols.
Transportation • They did have the wheel: right on track with other civilizations, like Mesopotamia • They had a toy cart, indicating the existence of a life size cart, most likely pulled by animals to transport goods.
Weaponry • The weaponry of Mohenjo-Daro was advanced • They had copper, an advanced weapon material for the time period.
