All About Our Team • Our experience teaching • We have 56 years of teaching experience. • We have 45 years teaching in First Grade. • We have 37 years teaching at MV.
Our Goals • To give your child the academic knowledge and skills they need to progress to second grade. • To provide a supportive, warm, and fun classroom environment. • To help your child grow socially, make new friends, and discover new interests.
Class Subjects The subjects we cover during first grade are: • Reading 12:00-2:00 • Math 8:20-9:50 • Health • Writing • Technology • Social Studies • Science
Reading • Reading Groups based on ability • Whole Group instruction in Harcourt Trophies Basal Reader • Big Books, Books on tape, Poetry, Fiction and non-fiction selections
Reading • Print Concepts • Phonemic Awareness • Phonics • Vocabulary • Fluency • Comprehension
Writing • Writer’s Workshop~ a very fun and relaxing way to learn to write and enjoy their work through celebrations.
Writing Units • Writing Process • Writing Elements Six Traits Plus One • Writing Applications
Technology • We have 5 laptops in our classroom. • One Smart Board • A computer lab in school
Math • Investigations ~ a very hands on way of teaching math through exploration and problem solving. We will make real life connections as to why and where we would use math.

Homework Your child has a binder/folder that should be coming home nightly and needs to return each day. Please make sure that you and your student go through this folder nightly. Homework will include • Reading • Math games • Additional support based on student needs
