Background • Continue to roll-out Sp-ICE web browser • Developing alert flag for referred patients • Ability to automatically email reports • Users want to be able to request tests electronically • Users want results reported straight into LIMS/other • Requirement for solution to support over 200 NHSBT customers • Review of potential solutions included: • Medinfo (e-Hemobank) • Indigo4 • Sunquest • NPEx

Benefits of EDI • Reduction in transcription errors: • There is no requirement for manual entry of test requests by NHSBT staff • There is no requirement for entry of test results into LIMS by hospital staff • Creation of capacity as a result of: • Electronic requesting • Elimination of “fax back” to confirm sample receipt status • Reduction in number of queries • Sample tracking available through use of NPEx

  5. Original Approach • Proof of Concept • Establish connectivity and transfer of test transactions • LIMS development • To support blood transfusion referrals and results • Pilot • Identification/engagement with pilot hospitals • Potential offering to NHSBT customers

  7. Achievements • Proof of Concept • Development of NPEx interface to support simple referrals and results • Development of NPEx Shipping Manifest to support sample reconciliation and processing • Potential offering to support referral and reporting of high volume, simple samples
