  3. Success Today Means 2/10/14 • You hone your critical thinking skills through analyzing the Do Now source • You think deeper about one source to accurately complete the spider. • You find at least THREE credible sources Permission Slips

Steps to work Smarter today 2/10/14 • Scan/Skim possible source • Conduct Credibility Checklist • If credible, copy down “Source Information” • Source Info= • Author’s last name, first name • “Title of webpage.” • Date (day month year) • Name of sponsoring organization • Date of access (day month year) •  <Webpage address>.

  6. Success Today Means 2/11/14 • You properly format your source information into a “citation” • You create a “source card” for each credible source. • You understand the basics of the notecard research system.

  7. Why notecards? • Regular note taking works fine for small essays, arguments, assignments or lectures, but what happens when you have 50 pieces of information? How can you keep track of what fact comes from what source and be able to organize your facts by theme and not source?

  8. Notecard System= Smarter • More work at first, MUCH LESS WORK later.

  14. Success Today Means 2/12/14 • You begin to create note cards as you build your research. • You continue to find credible sources and build source/note cards • HW: five note cards • Permission Slips!

  15. Am Lit DO NOW: 2/13/14 • Create a goal for yourself today. This goal should have a deadline of the end of class. The goal itself should be visible/measurable. • You need to have a minimum of 10 notecards (preferable from more than one source card) • HW: 10 notecards and PERMISSION SLIPS. • ** 25 notecards due Tuesday 2/18** • (Dippy ptsfor a volunteer to show his/her notecards with corresponding source card)

  16. Am Lit DO NOW 2/13/14 • Tomorrow we will have an expert help you find info about your topic. For your Do Now for today, respond to the following: • 1. Create a couple of possible questions to ask the librarian. (I would ask for “key word” help. Aka what to type in the search box. Or any other issue you might have. • 2. Today is a research day. Create an observable goal that you want to accomplish before the end of class. If we can work quietly and independently, I can come around and give “work smarter” tips to individuals
