  1. Foreshadowing Have you ever run into someone accidentally as they rounded the corner of a building. Why? What might have helped them you avoid the collision? In other words, how could you have known someone was there before they actually saw them?

  2. Now think of a situation in which you might know someone is coming without hearing or seeing them first. What else could give you a hint? What if you are outside during the day light?

  3. Foreshadowing: The use of clues or hints to suggest events that will occur later in the plot. The clues in the story could be looked at as the shadow of an event to come, something will happen in the future, just like the shadow on the sidewalk.

  4. Foreshadowing in use… In literature, for example, a gun found under a mattress in chapter two of a novel may foreshadow violence later in the story. Because the gun's presence is established, the violence later in the story is more believable. In a movie, musical score may foreshadow an event is about to occur. For example In a movie, a short sequence of events could hint at action or conflict that will occur later in the film.

  5. In Star Wars, Episode II, George Lucas uses a scene to foreshadow Anakin’s final plight. Pay attention to his arm.

  6. Remember…it’s all about the arm! As the clip begins, and the swords ignite, can you guess what happens to Anakin?

  7. Later, we see that Anakin has a new hand-made of metal.

  8. Foreshadowing: The use of clues or hints to suggest events that will occur later in the plot. The clues in the story could be looked at as the shadow of an event to come, something will happen in the future, just like the shadow on the sidewalk.
