  2. Hardware • Fry’s components • Desktop platform • 64-bit processor • 8 gb ram • Multiple SATA internal hard disks and external drives

Upgrade Steps • Create Acronis boot cd • Create image of Windows 7 partition on external drive using True Image 2013 • Create Windows 8.0 DVD from ISO file • Create Windows 8.1 DVD from ISO file • Note - all data located on non-system disk and external USB drives • In Windows 7, launch setup.exe from Windows 8.x DVD media • Choose upgrade option rather than full install to preserve applications • Enter desired User name and password (Note – you can choose Local account rather than a Microsoft online account) 9. To use Administrator account – net user Administrator /active:yes 10. Choose Express configuration settings 11. In Windows 8.0, Select Desktop from tile screen and then open Computer shortcut to access CD/DVD device and Windows 8.1 DVD 12. Repeat steps 6 through 9 for Windows 8.1 upgrade

Cautions • You will lose your applications upgrading straight to Windows 8.1 even while selecting upgrade • Microsoft advises there is no upgrade path to Windows 8.1 directly from Windows 7 • Acronis True Image 2013 does not allow mouse to control cursor - you must use the arrows on the keyboard • Acronis True Image 2014 supports mouse control with Windows 8.1 • Free upgrade is available from Acronis for True Image 2014
