REVIEW OF IB REQUIREMENTS • Students study in their 11th and 12th grade years: • Three subjects at the higher level (240 hours each) • Three subjects at the standard level (150 hours each) • All three parts of the Core
CONTENTS: WHAT DOES THE CORE OF THE IB ENTAIL? • The Extended Essay—an independent paper on original research of 4,000 words • CAS (Creativity, Action, and Service)-Education outside of the classroom—150 hrs. • Theory of Knowledge course— “How do we know what we know?”
PATHWAYS During the junior and senior years, we will offer career oriented pathways for students to take specialized courses, internships, or university classes. Pathway Academies include: Academy of Applied Science, Academy of Biological Science, Academy of Corporate/Mathematical Innovation, Academy of Engineering, Academy of Health and Medicine, and Academy of Technology and Media Communications Students will either take a pathway course, do an independent research project, or participate in an internship each semester of their junior and senior years.

STEM ACADEMY COURSE WEIGHTING The GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of Quality points earned by the number of credits attempted. Quality Points are awarded depending upon the final grade earned and the credit value of the course. All STEM courses beginning with “S” and ending in the number four are Pre Diploma level courses that have a .50 weight. IB Higher Level Courses will end in 6 and have a 1.0 weight [THIS MEANS THAT MOST COURSES AT STEM WILL RECEIVE THE EQUIVALENT OF HONORS OR AP WEIGHT]
