  4. Motivation- not just for the kids! Parental support is 8 times more important in determining a child’s academic success than social class. The Campaign for Learning found that parental involvement in a child’s education can mean the difference between an A* and an ‘also-ran’ at GCSE.

  5. What you can do… • Give them a sense of control • Build in rewards • Talk to them • Praise when earned

  6. She always panics in exams and I’m worried that she won’t cope. Always the last minute with everything. He tells me to “chill” but I seem to be the only one who is worried! I only asked what she wanted for tea. Now the door is off it’s hinges and we’re not talking- again! Going out again! He’s got exams coming up. I don’t understand half of what she does. How can I help?

  9. Growth Mindset • No one is ever proud of what they did half-heartedly. • Effort is the key to success. • Avoid Turtonitis! • Think of your future. - What do you want? - What do you need?

  10. Working Together • TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More. • Use the resources available, especially our expert staff. • Keep the home – school channels open. • Don’t let anxiety fester; shout, share and solve.

  11. The Future is Bright • The next two years will be Turton’s best ever. • Build on current strengths. • Build on a great attitude.

  12. 2013 will be interesting. 2014 is up to us, students, staff, parents.

  14. Interviews • Wear comfortable but smart clothing (school uniform) • Be on time • Practise answers: - What do you want to study? - What do you want to be in the future? - What are your other interests?

  15. Results Day • If the results aren’t what you want, DON’T PANIC! • Even if you don’t want to come to Turton Sixth Form, feel free to have an interview • Our interview will take as long as it needs – we will try and come to a solution which is in the best interests of your child.
