06. Excel Charts. File -> Open -> 06b-datastart.xlsx. Click on column header A to select the Date column. While holding Ctrl on your keyboard, click on column header E and F. Click on Insert -> Line -> 2-D Line. Displays a line graph of the indices both starting at 1,000.

  2. File -> Open -> 06b-datastart.xlsx

  3. Click on column header A to select the Date column

  4. While holding Ctrl on your keyboard, click on column header E and F

  5. Click on Insert -> Line -> 2-D Line

  6. Displays a line graph of the indices both starting at 1,000

  7. Right-Click with mouse on left axis and click on Format Axis

  8. Choose Axis Options -> Major Unit Fixed 20000

  9. Choose Number -> 0 Decimal places

  10. Tick box for Use 1000 Separator

  11. Click Close

  12. Right-Click with mouse on X axisand click on Format Axis

  13. Click on Number and change Format Code to yyyy

  14. Click Add and then Close

  15. Right-Click on Legend and click Format Legend…

  16. Untick box which saysShow the legend without overlapping the chart

  17. Select Fill -> Solid Fill -> White

  18. Select Border Color -> Solid Line -> Black

  19. Click Close

  20. Click on Legend and drag to empty space on top left

  21. Right-Click on Plot Area and select Format Plot Area …

  22. Select Fill -> Solid Fill -> White

  23. Select Border Color -> Solid Line -> Black

  24. Click Close

  25. Right-click on Chart Area and select Format Chart Area …

  26. Click Fill -> No Fill

  27. Click Border Color -> No Line

  28. Click Close

  29. Now have a neatly formatted chart that can be copied to Word or Powerpoint

  30. Custom Charts

  31. Click on Chart

  32. Click Design -> Save as Template

  33. Save as CustomLineChart

  34. Click Save

  35. Click on Chart and press DEL on keyboard to delete

  36. Click on column header A to select the Date column

  37. While holding Ctrl on your keyboard, click on column header E and F

  38. Click on Insert -> Line -> All Chart Types

  39. Click on Templates and your custom chart

  40. Click OK

  41. Produces a chart using your template

  42. Click on chart and press DEL on keyboard

  45. Type AppleReturn in H1

  46. Type SPReturn in I1

  47. In H3 type=(B3-B2)/B2

  48. In I3 type=(C3-C2)/C2

  49. Select cells H3 and I3 and press Ctrl+c on your keyboard

  50. Paste formula down remainder of dataset
