2. Mrs. Barker Mrs. Barker has been the Media Specialist at River Ridge Elementary since its opening in 1997. She also directs the Morning Show and is the school’s Web Master. Working with the Fourth Grade Students on this Virtual Museum has been a great adventure! Return to Museum Entrance

7. Enrico Fermi Enrico Fermi was born September 29, 1901 in Rome Italy. He graduated from the United University of Pisan in 1922. He married Laura Caption in 1928. He was a physicist and studied how matter behaves. He was taught physics at university in Florence Rome. He was a a professor of physics. In 1942 he designed the first successful nuclear reactor. He built the reactor as part of the U.S. nuclear weapons program. He died Nov.28, 1954 in Chicago. By Bryisha & Cole Return to Room

8. Henry Ford Henry Ford was born July 30, 1863 in Dearborn Michigan. Ford grew up on a farm in Michigan. He married Clara in 1888. Henry started his car company in 1903. He made the Model-T a cheap and dependable car. You got five dollars for building cars. He wanted Americans to buy the cars they made. He died on April 7, 1947 in Dearborn Michigan. 9. Galileo Galilei Galileo was born in February 18, 1564 in Pisa, Italy. Galileo had 3 children named Virginia, Livia, and Vincenzo. Galileo went to the University of Pisa. He discovered 4 satellites of Jupiter and that planets orbit the Sun. Galileo was called “Father of modern science”. Galileo also built the first telescope. He wrote about mathematics. 10. George Washington Carver George Washington Carver was born a slave in 1860 in Diamond Grove, Missouri. He was never married or had children. His mother died and his master gave him his last name. Between the ages of 10 and 12 he left to go to school. He joined the department of agriculture, became a professor. He died January 5, 1943. By Rebecca & Thomas Return to Room

11. William Shakespeare William Shakespeare was born April 23, 1564. He lived in Stratford upon Avon, England. He married Anne Hathaway in 1582. He had three children. In his early life, he wrote poems. Also he wrote plays. Today people study Shakespeare’s plays and poems. Later he wrote tragicomedies. He wrote 15 plays by 1597. His plays are still popular today. 12. Michael T. Faraday In Newington, England, Michael Faraday discovered something huge. His birth was September 22, 1719. Faraday created the first dynamo. A dynamo is a machine that produces electrical energy. He would read a lot and wanted to make an experiment. He experimented with electricity. 13. The Wright Brothers Wilbur Wright was born in 1867 and his brother, Orville was born in 1871. In their early life, the Wright Brothers were interested in machines. Between 1900 and 1902, the Wright brothers tested more than 200 models of gliders in a homemade wind tunnel. They built three gliders that they success fully flew. 14. Booker T. Washington Booker T. Washington was born a slave in Virginia in 1856. After earning his freedom, Washington went to school during the day and worked at night. He married Fannie Norton Smith in 1882. She died in1884. He then married Margaret James. He was one of the famous educators in history. In 1881 Washington got a job as principal of a new school in Alabama for African Americans. The school was called the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute. By Kaimia & Chyler Return to Room

15. Sitting Bull Sitting bull lived from 1831-1890. He did not have a family but he was in a tribe. He became a leader of the battle of Bighorn. He became a chief of an Indian tribe. He was arrested by the Native American police, he died in jail. He was buried in North Dakota. His tribe won a war versus the Canadians; he was also in the Wild West show. He became a famous leader. 16. Julius Caesar Julius Caesar was born in Rome on 100 B.C. He married Cornelia and had a daughter named Julia. He came from the Julian gens, one of the oldest patrician families in Rome. When he was an adult, he was a military hero. He was in the Roman Civil War. He ruled Rome and was later killed by a group of politicians in March 15, 44 B.C. By Juliana & Lauren Return to Room

17. Carl Sagan Carl Sagan was born in 1934 Brooklyn, New York. He earned 3 college degrees. Sagan wrote many books in his adult life. He also married Lynn Margulis in 1957. Sagan got divorced 2 times and had no children. He was in his 20s when he helped discover that the temperatures on the planet Venus were very high. He died December 20th 1996 in Seattle, Washington. 18. Fredrick Douglass Frederick Douglass was born February 1817 in Tuckahoe, Maryland. He was born as a slave. He married Anna Murray, a free African American around 1838. He had three sons and one daughter who survived to adulthood. Another daughter died at age ten. He spent his entire life fighting slavery by giving speeches, writing articles, and working with other abolitionist. Douglass was a powerful speaker. He was also a good writer. He wrote newspapers and magazines articles asking people to join the abolitionist movement. After the civil war, Douglass continued to fight for equal rights for African Americans. He also fought for women rights. He died in February 20, 1895 at seventy-eight years old. By Raequan & Kevin Return to Room

19. Marco Polo Marco Polo was born in Venice, Italy on September 15 1254. When Polo was young he did not see his father Niccolo Polo that much because he was a merchant. When Polo was 17 he went to China with his father and Uncle Maffoe Polo. Then when he was older he became the governor of the city of Yang –Chou for 3 years. Polo was told from Kublai Khan to bring the princess of Persia so they can get married and when they got there Kublai Khan had died. So Polo went Venice, Italy and got married Donata Bader. They had 3 kids Fantia, Bellela, Moreta. Polo died in Venice Italy January 1324. By Luke & Alex Return to Room

20. George Washington Carver George Washington Carver was born in 1860 in Diamond Grove. He was born a slave. He never got married or had children. He graduated from Iowa State College. Then he earned his collage degree. He taught at a school for African Americans in Alabama called the Tuskegee Institute. He developed concept of crops rotation and soil renewal. 22. James Cook James Cook was born in 1728. He lived England and other places too. His family was a father and maybe a mother and siblings. He started to work when he was 7. Also went to tough school to learn how to sail ships. He lived in a 2 room cottage. He was a royal navy and a navigator. James Cook accomplished his apprenticeship and was given command of the Endeavour. He died in 1779 killed by Native Americans. By Katelyn & Nate Return to Room

23. Sitting Bull Sitting Bull was born in 1831 He had a mother a father a baby sister and a daughter. He was a chief of his Native American tribe. His was at the battle and victory of Little Bighorn. He was Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show. He died in 1890. By Raven & Hannah Return to Room

24. Davy Crockett Davy Crockett was born in Greenville Tennessee. Crockett became a politician and opponent of Andrew Jackson. He was killed defending the Alamo. His comments about city life and national affairs made him popular in Washington. By Gavin & Zyquez Return to Room

25. Marco Polo Marco Polo was born in September 15, 1254 in Venice Italy. Marco Polo married Ponata Bader in 1300. They also had 3 kids Fantina, Bellela, and Moret. In Marco Polo’s early life, he sailed with his father and uncle to China. He served in the Khan government as governor of the city of a Yang. In 1289 Marco left China on a mission for Kublai Khan to find spice. In 1298 Marco polo’s ship got captured. He died, January 8, 1324. By Rayven & Jarred Return to Room

26. Phyllis Reynolds Naylor Phyllis Reynolds Naylor was born on January 4, 1933. When she was 16 she sold her first book. She married Rex Naylor in 1960. Her children are Jeff and Michael. She is a popular author today. By Alexis and Michael Return to Room
