Applications Steel culverts Steel trap to septic tanks County or Highway Department boundary markers Steel drums Any iron (ferrous) objects or man-made magnets or markers
Features and Benefits GA-52Cx (comes with hard-case) • Most sensitive of the three models; best for small and deeper targets • Very acute “peak” while sweeping quickly over target • Passive—no transmitted energy • The most rugged; 7-year warranty, best in the industry • Recognized as best-in-industry model; repeat business is assured
Features and Benefits GA-72Cd (comes with hard-case) • 3 levels of precision measurement • Audio - very sensitive and acute over target • Polarity Bar Graph - helps determine size, orientation of target • Milligaus Read-out - helps determine cover type, pipe joint style or other distinction • Passive - no transmitted energy • Ergonomic handle • 5-year warranty
Features and Benefits GA-92XTd (comes with hard-case and holster) • 2 levels of precision measurement • Audio - very sensitive and acute over target • Polarity Bar Graph - helps determine size, orientation of target • The most ergonomic - pistol grip, portable & smallest storage space • Passive - no transmitted energy
Features and Benefits GA-92XTd (comes with hard-case and holster) • Easy access battery removal - single 9V alkaline • One handed operation; comes with holster (hands-free) • 7-year warranty
Basic Magnetic Locating Method When the locator comes within range of an iron object, the audio signal will peak. For models with displays, a bar graph will expand positive or negative, and the digital readout (magneticintensity or milligaus) will peak as shown.
Basic Magnetic Locating Method Keep the locator away from your shoes since they might contain steel toes. To obtain maximum area coverage, sweep the locator from side to side.
Basic Magnetic Locating Method After you have detected the presence of a target, hold the locator vertically and slowly move it back and forth in an "X" pattern while listening to the audio or observing the digital readout.
Basic Magnetic Locating Method The value of the number or the tone will be highest when the locator is directly over the top of a vertical target, and over the ends of a horizontal target. The "X" pattern is ideal for pinpointing small objects.

FAQs Q. Do you have a metal detector for locating water valves? A. A magnetic locator will do that job perfectly and not pick up an interference like a metal detector will, because it’s specific to just iron or steel targets. Q. What do you have to find a copper water line? A. Schonstedt offers pipe & cable locators to detect copper lines. Magnetic locators do not detect copper, brass, nickel or aluminum. Only objects made of iron or steel, and those that are isolated and non-linear.
FAQs Q. My curb boxes are deep, say 8 ft what do you have to go down that deep A. The GA-52Cx is best; and GA-72Cd will do as well Q. I need to distinguish my water valve covers versus the gas valve covers which are different in size but just too close to each other at times? A. The GA-72Cd has a bar graph which displays bar segments and a magnetic measurement of intensity (milligaus) that will help define your lid versus theirs. Just have to run a test first with both lids and take note of the readings, amount of bars and read-out, then apply that to the field
FAQs Q. Will the GA-92XTd be as good as my old GA-52Cx looking for valves? A. How deep are your valves? 0-6 ft, then YES; 6-10 ft, stick with the 52Cx. Q. Do all three models work the same and will they detect my iron/steel target? A. Yes, all three models will detect iron/steel objects with ferrous material. It’s a matter of personal preference with respect to sensitivity, length, compactness and ergonomics, or simply what you’re used to, that determines which model is best suited to the application and customer.
FAQs • Q. Will the magnetic locators pick up stainless steel? • No, stainless steel has no ferrous content. It contains carbon instead and therefore has no magnetic characteristics. • Q. Will a magnetic locator react to a magnetized magnet or marker? • Yes it will. Any man-made magnetized metal will have a magnetic field and the instrument will react to this for as long as the object retains its magnetic properties.
