Other Nations have used Home Olympic Games effectively to provide Medical/Science Legacy • Australia (Sydney 2000): The AIS received substantial funding to develop further its services and establish itself as the leading National Institute coordinating other regional centres • China (Beijing 2008): The Chinese institute of sports science (founded in 1958) received a boost in funding to renew and modernise the facilities and increase staffing levels • Canada (Vancouver 2010): 8 M Can Dollars investment in science activities in Sport, Own the Podium raised funds to increase Sports Science and Medicine activities, renovate and establish 4 Canadian Sports Institutes (still ongoing: Montreal, B.C., Toronto and Calgary) • Brazil (Rio 2016): already announced $7m investment for a new Olympic Lab in Rio
