What is LookBook? • Online blogging site based on fashion. • Allows you to showcase "street style" photography • Includes a collective gallery from which "lookbookers" and non-members can draw daily fashion inspiration.
What are it’s practices? • A LookBook is a collection of photographs compiled to show off a model, a photographer, a style, or a clothing line. It is an especially popular term with "fashion bloggers”. • Prosumers who use LookBook are people who have a high interest in fashion and photography. Prosumers usually use LookBook to share their style of fashion with others who browse this very site searching for new ideas such as fashion trends. Other models would use LookBook to get a high profile and will hope to get spotted by a fashion agency which they can sign to. • Prosumers who are models will take pictures of themselves in different and the latest outfits and will upload these picture to LookBook on their account. • Prosumers who are photographers on LookBook will also follow the very same principle as the models but they will mainly want to be noticed for their photography skills rather more than the fashion side of it. It is a way for Photographers to get themselves a high profile, they can also use LookBook as portfolio of their work. • LookBook has a (Leaders Board): -Daily -Weekly -Monthly -All time • Prosumers are encouraged to upload more photos hoping they can get themselves on one of the leader boards. This creates a competition for the prosumers which keeps them more interested.
Type of Playbour involved • Involves users to post up own outfits • Do this for their own pleasure (intrinsic reward) • However, also classed as work as they are putting in effort to show users new styles that they put together – (Marx) • Outfit styles shared to other audiences to gain inspiration from. • The website itself built buy users themselves – No input from creators
How is it meaningful? • As we know from the lecture that the playbour construct of “play”, “labour” and “leisure”. So, we found out that the LookBook apply these concepts through showing the designs of fashion for just fun without consideration about material gain. • Also, this lead us to another important point which is breaking the rules for the Taste of Dominant groups of the fashion that everyone can shows his/her taste.
What are it’s social functions? • The social function of look book is that it allows ….. • Look Book • A look book is an essential piece to a creative marketing strategy for anyone in the fashion industry. A book filled with glossy photographs provides editors, potential buyers and even potential customers with an idea of what you can create. Work with a photographer who understands fashion photography and considers hiring a stylist for the shoot. Be sure that your look book includes information about you, how your brand got started, your direction and your contact information.
How is Playbour useful to LookBook? • Outfits uploaded to Lookbookby it’s members and are scored with points known as ‘Hype’. • This scoring of points is used to differentiate between the looks posted on it. • Looks are displayed on Lookbook under a variety of different ways on the website. • The default view of the site is via Hot tab, which shows those looks which are most popular on the site, judged by the variety of the Hype they have received. • Furthermore, users are allowed to ‘become fans’ of other Lookbook users : when one becomes a fan of the other, that person will receive updates every time that person uploads a new look. • Lookbook therefore allows its users to share their views on Facebook and twitter to comment on the looks uploaded by the user members. • This brings in the point of play and labour combined together.
