“ism” definitions • Conservatism – philosophy based on social stability and tradition that stresses established institutions and favors gradual development over abrupt change. • Liberalism – philosophy based on progress (opposite of conservatism) • Nationalism – loyalty and devotion to a country or nation
“ism” definitions • Capitalism – An economic system categorized by private ownership of the means of production and competition • Socialism – A system or condition in which the means of production is owned by the state • Militarism – predominance of a military class and its ideals
“ism” definitions • Imperialism – the extension or imposition of one state’s power over that of another state or area • Industrialism – System in which large-scale industries are dominant • Social Darwinism – Believing that social interactions and economics will be worked out by the survival of the fittest
