How can you check the quality of a housing proposal? How can you use Building for Life in your policies and to monitor quality? Who is this masterclass for? Planners, chief officers, councillors, highway engineers and housing professionals who want to ensure high quality new homes built in their area But please note – this is a masterclass and we will not be going through the general principles and concepts of good design – so if you are truly new to these subjects this might not be the best session for you. A quick look at key issues such as density, parking, amenity, privacy and character. • What is BfL – what are the criteria and how does it work-pre build and as an audit tool?    • Using BfL in real life - How Southampton council are using it in policy and to assess planning applications. • Having a go – Exercise - applying BfL to some real schemes. • Discussion – feedback from exercise, and some key questions like how did it work, would a refusal stick?
