  2. What your child will need every day: • Book bag • Water bottle (please do not put these in book bags) • PE kit (shorts and T-shirt) • Waterproof coat • Wellington boots • Sun hat in hot weather • Please ensure all items are clearly named

  3. Reading • All children will read in a group once a week. • Children will take a book home to read to support their reading in class. • The reading diary will record when your child has read in class. • Any comments you write in the diary will be read on your child’s reading day. • Please sign and date your child’s reading diary when they read at home. • Library books will be changed every Wednesday.

  4. Class rules • Rules are decided and agreed by all children and adults in the class. • A traffic light system with rewards and sanctions supports the class rules. • Stickers given by adults can be put on a reward card. • All behaviour management procedures follow the school’s behaviour policy.

  5. Class procedures • Children are encouraged to come into the cloakroom independently in the mornings. • Children need to be collected from the double doors at the end of the jubilee block. • Show and tell is done weekly on a group rota. • A visual timetable helps the children to know what is happening each day. • Literacy, phonics, reading and maths are undertaken every day. • Positions of responsibility are given – class helpers, assembly monitors, play leaders.

  6. Home learning • Children are encouraged to practise their reading regularly. • High frequency words and comprehension questions will support your child’s reading. • Spellings will be set and tested on a fortnightly basis. • Children are encouraged to use their maths in everyday situations. • An overview of all learning for the half term will be provided.

  7. Further information • Once a week we welcome you into class at the start of the day to share a book or a game with your child. • Parent helpers are welcome in class. • Information will be provided by letters in book bags, on the class notice board and on the school website: www.draytoninfantschool.co.uk
