  2. Literary Movement! • Realism- Interest in or concern for the actual or real as distinguished from the abstract speculative. • Naturalism- A literary movement among novelists at the end of the 19th century.

  3. The development • Realism is exerted a profound influence on drama and theatrical productions, altering practices of set design and costuming. • Naturalism is an offshoot of realism. It was a literary movement that placed even greater emphasis on the accurate representation of details from contempoary life.

  4. Characteristics • Realism is a big one for our story because it was real invents. Such as the civil war. • Naturalism is one because of the occurrence of the story.

  7. Ambrose Bierce • He was a union officer in the Civil War. He explored themes in his writing of cruelty and death. So they gave him the nickname Bitter Bierce. Bierce was born in Ohio and raised on a farm in Indiana. When the Civil War was going on he enlisted in the union army. He fought important battles.

It tells about the military codes and how they used to hang to hang men and watch them die. The passage talks about where they fought and gives details of where they traveled and how they got there.
