  22. Page 55: Sufficiency of Circumstantial Evidence • Have proved each fact essential to that conclusion beyond a reasonable doubt. • The only reasonable conclusion supported by the cir.evid. is that the defendant is guilty. • If one reasonable theory points to innocence, that theory must be accepted. • You must accept only reasonable conclusions

  23. For an argument to be sound Form must be valid Premises must be true

  24. Examples of bad premises Love is blind. God is love. Stevie Wonder is blind. Therefore Stevie Wonder is God.

  25. Examples of bad form • Christians believe that God is an old man with a long beard in the sky. • We have photos proving that there are no old men in the sky. • Therefore, God doesn’t exist.

  26. Examples of bad form • Juan Pablo drives to Mexico in his friend’s Honda Accord every month. • Juan Pablo gets the stomach flu every time he goes to Mexico. • Therefore, Honda Accords cause stomach flu.

  27. Cosmological Argument • Anything that begins to exist has a cause. • The universe began to exist. • Therefore, the universe must have a cause. • This cause must be eternal and uncaused. • God is the most reasonable explanation for such an uncaused first cause.
