STAY ON THE UPFIELD SHOULDER OF THE RECEIVER 5. KEY - DON’T LOSE GROUND WHILE TURNING & RUNNING VERTICALLY UPFIELD (STAY LOW !!!) 6. IF DEFENDER IT TOO HIGH, HE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GENERATE SPEED IN HIS TURN
E. HOW TO PLAY THE RECEIVER IF BEATEN BY 2 YARDS OR MORE 1. DON’T LOOK FOR THE BALL 2. RECEIVER LOOKS BACK TO THE QB, IT WILL SLOW HIM DOWN (CROSSES HIPS) 3. READ THE RECEIVER’S HANDS, EYES, & FACE 4. HANDS WILL COME UP TO RECEIVE THE BALL 5. PULL AWAY ONE OF THE RECEIVER’S HANDS WHILE HE TURNS HIS HEAD TOWARD THE BALL 6. EYES WILL WIDEN AS THE BALL APPROACHES 7. FACE - EASIEST TO TEACH a. Receiver looks for the ball b. Defensive back plays the ball
F. BASIC TACKLING TECHNIQUES 1. APPROACH - ATTACK THE BALL CARRIER 2. CLOSE THE GAP - GATHER YOURSELF a. Give the ball carrier only one way to go. b. Force - Inside out or Outside in 3. FOCUS ON THE NUMBERS OF THE BALL CARRIER & MAKE CONTACT WITH CHEST. 4. KEEP EYES OPEN & HEAD UP 5. CONTACT, EXPLODE, THE KNEES MUST BE BENT & HIPS FORWARD, ACCELERATE THE FEET, ARMS, GRAB CLOTH 6. DO NOT USE THE HELMET
