Goals for the FLOAT Team • Ultimate Goal of Research • A successful test will provide motivation for increased research into FMCs • KC-135 Test Objective • To design a control system that, after an initial disturbance, will be able to return the apparatus to its original position within 20 seconds Performance Test of a Fluidic Momentum Controller in Three Axes External Advisory Committee October 23, 2003
Accelerometers • Read acceleration rates of 6 faces • Input voltages to control system corresponding to accelerations • FieldPoint • Stand-alone control system • Integrated modular input/output distributor • 3 modules • Control module • Input module • Output module • Batteries • Supply power to control module • Control module distributes and regulates power • Fluid Loops and Pumps • Accelerate Fluid to generate a change in angular momentum • Apply torques over time to negate disturbance effects
