Jacques Cartier had 3 different trips to America. • In 1534 the king of France sent him to find a water way through the New World or The Northwest Passage • In 1535 the king sent him to map the waterway. • In 1541 Cartier and about 100 settlers tried to set up a French Empire but many of the settlers died during the winter.
