Native People Timeline. By: Mick Sumner. Paleo Indians(Ice age). Earliest known culture. Invented atlatl. They were Nomadic. Weapons and most utensils were made of stone. Early Archaic(8,000-5,000 b.c.). Large game started dying, hunting more small game. Moved every season.

  2. Paleo Indians(Ice age) • Earliest known culture. • Invented atlatl. • They were Nomadic. • Weapons and most utensils were made of stone.

  3. Early Archaic(8,000-5,000 b.c.) • Large game started dying, hunting more small game. • Moved every season. • Weaponry gets smaller. • They become more civilized

  4. Middle Archaic(5,000-4,000 B.C.) • Rivers start receding. • People start eating shellfish. • Houses become more permanent .

  5. Late Archaic(4,000-1,000 B.C.) • Created the axe. • Very permanent. • Clay containers to store food start to be made. • Horticulture starts.

  6. Woodland Indians(1,000B.C.-1,000A.D.) • Nomadic herders made tribes. • Began growing food like squash, maize, and pumpkins. • Made the bow-and-arrow. • Made pottery last longer to store food so they moved very little.

  7. Mississippian Indians(1,000-1,600 A.D.) • Advanced housing, agriculture, and weaponry. • Referred to as the Temple Mound Age. • Very elaborate religious ceremonies. • More laid back, most permanent settlement.
