  3. “In the heavenly realms” …while we are still on earth. …while we are still physical. “spiritual” • limits the meaning of “every”. “…in Christ” • through whom they come. Blessings Summary Eph. 1:3 “Every …blessing”

  4. Blessing # 1 -- Eph. 1:4 When? Before the beginning of everything! By what means? In Him (Christ)! He chose us To what end? To be holy and blameless in His sight

  5. Blessing # 2 -- Eph. 1:5 In what manner?In love! By what means? Through Jesus Christ He predestined us Why? Because of His pleasure & His will To what end? To be adopted as His sons

  6. A primer on NT “adoption” • “huiothesia” Huio=son. Tithemi=place • Meaning: Placement as sons • It is the official declaration of someone as adult heir to inherit full authority to act in the father’s behalf. • We have already received “the spirit of adoption” Rom. 8:15 • We will receive our final “adoption” at the end. Rom. 8:22-23

  7. Features of our “Adoption” in Christ • We lost all rights, privileges, and responsibilities to the Devil and his family. • We are now heirs with Christ to the Father’s Kingdom. • Our old life is gone. We have become a new person in the eyes of Heaven.

  8. Praise His Glorious Grace Our response to Blessing # 2 -- Eph. 1:6 What kind of Grace? Freely Given Given by what means? In Christ

  9. Closing Principles… • Don’t look to earthly, material blessings as best. • Every believer has all these blessings! Don’t be jealous. • Rejoice in the fact that He chose you! • Recognize you have a great destiny in Him!

  11. Blessing # 3 -- Eph. 1:7, 8 Through whom? In Him (Christ) What was the price? Through His blood redemption Controlled by His wisdom & understanding Also called… forgiveness of sins According to Riches of His grace

  12. Mystery of His will revealed Blessing # 4 -- Eph. 1:9-10

  13. Primer on “Mystery” in the NT • Gr. Word “musterion” -- a secret that cannot be known until revealed. • The term was used in some pagan religions for “inner secrets” that would be revealed as you ascended in rank in the religion. • In the New Testament, it is used of things that we Christians understand since Christ that were not clear before Him.

  14. Mystery of His will revealed Blessing # 4 -- Eph. 1:9-10 His will controlled by what? His good pleasure To take effect when? In fullness of time What is it? All things will be under Christ. Revealed in whom? Christ

  15. Every Story has an ending… …that fulfills the story.

  16. Closing Thoughts… • You have been freed. • You have been forgiven. • You have been informed. • The story has a happy ending.
