Growth and Reproduction of Cells 7th Grade Science
The Cell Cycle • The cell cycle has 3 parts: • Growth • Replication • Division
Phase One: Interphase • During Interphase: • The cell grows and goes through life processes • Copies genetic material (DNA) • Makes protiens
Phase Two: Mitosis • Mitosis is the replication of the nuclear material • It is a type of asexual reproduction
The 4 Steps of Mitosis • Prophase- chromosomes shorten and thicken and become known as chromatids 2. Metaphase- chromatids line up at the center of the cell.
3. Anaphase- chromatids separate from each other and move to opposite side of the cell. 4. Telophase- a new nuclear membrane forms around each region of chromosomes.
Phase Three: Cytokinesis • The final stage in the cell cycle is cytokinesis • Here two identical daughter cells are formed
