  2. History of Tea • A religious offering in Western Zhou Dynasty • Was drank only by royalty in Han Dynasty • Only until Tang Dynasty was it drank by lower classes • Spread to Japan during Tang Dynasty • Buddhists created the Japanese Tea Ceremony • Arrived in England during 17th Century

  4. Tea Types • White • light color & flavor • very low caffeine • Green • often blended with fruit or flowers • one cup has only 5-10% the caffeine in a cup of coffee • Oolong • a full-bodied flavor with a sweet aroma • 15% the caffeine in a cup of coffee

  6. Tea Types Continued • Black • Well known here • 20% of the caffeine in a cup of coffee • Herbal • Contains no leaves from the tea plant • Herbal infusions • Fruit • Flowers • Herbs • Usually caffeine free
