  1. THE NGMERING SPORT 14th January 2014 ANGMERING (Yr.9) Basketball vs. Shoreham Academy Year 9 Sims ly the best, book their place in the district final The year 9 basketball team played Shoreham Academy in the district semi final, a difficult looking game against opponents who had beaten us twice last year. The game began with both teams trading baskets although Angmering were guilty of giving away possession too easily. On the plus side we were rebounding well with Luke Elder winning the lion’s share off the boards and converting a few of them into points. Ollie Turner also scored a late mid range shot to give us a two point lead after the first stanza leading 10-8. Passerelle brought a new five on court, obviously cold after ten minutes on the bench they started very slowly and Shoreham took a small lead with their number 12 looking very dangerous. However, Adam Marshall running the plays from point guard and Harrison Sims driving into the key to score vital points. Good defence and sensible team play saw Miles Simpson and Alex Glossop add to the score. By the end of the stanza Angmering had extended their lead to 9 points with one stanza to go For the final stanza we started with our strongest five on paper what happened next was… probably the best basketball played all year. Led by top scorer Sims (who finished with 17 points ) and Centre Elder ably supplied by Marshall and Haines we simply blew Shoreham away, leaving them resorting to long hail mary passes to the number 12 athletically plucked out of the air by his marker and chief tormentor Sims. Game over, the bench came on to see the game out and chip in a few more points. Final score Angmering 38-27 Shoreham
