This workshop has been developed for Eighth Western Rivers Boat Crew Qualified Personnel (BCQP) as a review of basic surface operations processes and procedures to better promote safety and efficiency for patrols. Welcome! While not all encompassing, the topics discussed herein are issues that are of significant importance to our OIAs, DIRAUX/OTO or have been known to be the source of problems in recent years. This workshop is intended to serve as a primer for the upcoming operational boating season. Members are encouraged to frequently review references & PQS tasks to maintain proficiency. Required Workshops for OPS • Attend this mandatory refresher workshop • Must be completed by June 1st as per AUXOPS Policy Manual • Coxswains, Crew and PWO • Attend the mandatory 1 hour TCT refresher • Must be completed by 31 December • Annual refresher is waived if 5-year 4-hour TCT is completed in the same year Eighth Western Rivers 2014 Operations Workshop

Hot Weather Boat Crew Uniform • Shirt • Prescribed shirt is CG dark blue crew neck t-shirt • Stenciled or embroidered with “USCG Auxiliary”, ¾” tall block-style white letters across left chest • Auxiliary Operations Polo Shirt may also be worn • CG light blue undress shirt or working blue shirt no longer authorized • Any shirt worn must be neatly tucked into shorts Eighth Western Rivers 2014 Operations Workshop

“Happen Upon” Policy • If you discover a vessel during routine patrol that requests assistance and that vessel is not in contact with the Coast Guard: • You may render assistance including tow if capable • Report identity and location of vessel to OPCON and where you will be towing them • If vessel is in danger and you are unable to safely tow, you may endeavor to remove persons from the vessel until additional help can arrive on scene Eighth Western Rivers 2014 Operations Workshop

Providing SAR Response • Do only what you & your facility are capable of -Safety of crew comes first • Operate at safe speed for the conditions and local environment (wx, traffic, waterway) • Observe all NO WAKE zones. Advise OPCON of impact to ETA. Eighth Western Rivers 2014 Operations Workshop
Rendering Assistance • Do only what you are trained to do • Plan with your crew • Communicate your intentions to the disabled vessel’s Master • Maintain a tow watch • Provide medical assistance only to your level of training or certification Eighth Western Rivers 2014 Operations Workshop
Assistance to Auxiliary Facilities From the National SAR Manual M16130.2E Paragraph 4.2.5.8http://www.uscg.mil/directives/cim/16000-16999/CIM_16114_41.pdf • Coast Guard resources or Auxiliary facilities may be used to help Auxiliary facilities in need of assistance at any time • An Auxiliary Facility is defined as an Operational Facility having a current accepted Offer for Use form on file with DIRAUX • It is NOT just any boat owned by an Auxiliary member Eighth Western Rivers 2014 Operations Workshop
OPCON Policies • Remember if you cross-over to the “other” Sector, you must follow ALL policies of the responsible Sector • You must be cognizant of and compliant with the OPCON Sector’s policies • Your “home” Sector policies do not apply if you are operating in the other Sector’s AOR Eighth Western Rivers 2014 Operations Workshop

Currency Maintenance • Log 12 hours underway annually • Coxswains may log 12 hours as crew or coxswain • Members responsible for meeting currency maintenance requirements • Trailering hours do NOT count for underway time for currency maintenance.
