Legislation • Comprehensive Problem Gambling Act Introduced in Congress; First-Ever Federal Support for Programs to Prevent and Treat Problem Gambling – June 17, 2009 • H.R. 2906, authorizes the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to address problem gambling and appropriates $71 million over five years for grants to state health agencies, tribes, universities and non-profits to support problem gambling prevention, treatment and research programs.
Challenges • Implement reliable and valid tools to measure outcomes (intake-discharge and follow-ups). • Revise the logic model for GAP according to its current needs and structure. • Keep an open dialogue with stakeholders. • Create partnerships with other gambling programs across the nation. • Write a research article. • Engage in grant funding.
