Black and white television • Americans got their first look at television at an exhibit sponsored by RCA at the 1939 New York worlds fair.
Cable television • Cable came to the USA in 1948 and in Ccaada in 1952, primarily to serve rural areas.
UHF • In 1952, the Federal Communications Commission began allowing ultra-high frequency (UHF) TV broadcasting, adding 70 new channels.
Colour television • In 1954 the first coloured T.V came out.
Wireless remote In 1956 the first wireless TV remote, called space command. The 2 buttons allowed people to turn the TV on and off. And change channels.
Satellite transmission • The first satellite transmission of a TV broadcast in 1962 after the launched the Telstar satellite.
The cable-TV converter • We pushed those buttons with abandon, able to watch all those channels available on cable without ever having to leave our chairs. Hamlin introduced its remote programmer in 1971.
Pay-tv • Home Box Office became the first pay-TV network in the United States in 1972.
VCR • Two competing formats for home videotaping revolutionized the television industry in the late 1970s.
