Domains of Child Development are Related • The students were provided time to use age appropriate, educational toys. • Between arrival and lessons, the children are allowed to play with the toys with 2 or more peers. • There is enough room for the children to choose where they want to play.
Development proceeds in predictable directions • The students learned to connect every day experiences to the senses that are involved. • You use your eyes to see the moon • You use your ears to listen to music • You use your tongue to taste ice cream • They become more aware of their surroundings in concentrating on the senses.
Children are active learners! • The students participated in an active discussion about the 5 senses and what each one does. • The children shouted out the answers when they knew them. • They used their prior knowledge of their surrounding to connect an object to the sense involved. • Weekly Reader used as a review.
Play is important • The children are provided time to play with their peers using toys such as puzzles, building blocks and manipulatives. • Parallel play – 2 children sitting beside each other completed their puzzle and then asked to switch to use another one. • Cooperative play – children build off of each other’s ideas and imagination.
