MY LEARNING PHILOSOPHY Martin Ochoa s.
I considermyself to be: • A really slow learner: I need a lot of examples to understand a concept or a topic and enough time to reflect about it. • A hyperactive person: I can’t stand being sit down for long time; I get stressed. • A really sensitive person: I know when a teacher really knows about what he’s talking about, otherwise, the class would no longer be interesting for me.
For studying, I need: • A quiet place: I distract myself with too much noise. • Enough material ready: It’s really annoying to waste time looking for a pencil or something else. • Willand inspiration: I find difficult to work if I have a really bad mood or the topic doesn’t interest me at all.
In this particular case (studying English); music has been really important for me, for it is one of my main inspirations. (click on the box) Enya – Evening Falls
According to the test I made on the page: http://www.howtolearn.com/start/learning-styles-inventory my preferred learning styles are: • 47% auditory learner • 35% kinesthetic learner • 17% visual learner
I did another test on the page: http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks3/ict/multiple_int/index.htm and according to its result, the punctuation of my intelligences is (out of 25 points): • 20.1 points: Kinesthetic, Musical and Intrapersonal. • 20 points: Linguistic. • 15.1 points: Interpersonal and Naturalistic. • 10.3 points: Visual / Spatial. • 10.1 points: Logical Mathematical.
Now, knowing my learning styles and my intelligences can help me as a teacher because: • My learning experience would help me to be sympathetic with my students. • I can improve my motivational techniques based on those things I would find useful for learning. • Now that I know my weak intelligences I can look for good teaching strategies about those areas to use them properly.
It’s important for a teacher to know his students learning styles and needs because: • That way, the teacher can improve his motivational techniques. • The teacher will know better how to avoid boredom in his class. • He will help his students to abstract information in an easier way.
