PSYCHOLOGY…AND MEDICINE 8th lecture Zsolt B. Major - 4081237@t-email.hu
THE PERSPECTIVES, THEMES, SUBFIELDS OF PSYCHOLOGY Just like… …marbles…
Socialpsychology Other social impacts Obedience to the authority: • Milgram • The scientist wanted to understand what happened in the naczi German Empire? (Naczi soldier’s usual answers was „I followed just a command…” at Nürnberg • Insider participants played that they degrades their performance in a task of learning words; and after every mistake they made, they have played that they got electric shock 15-450 Voltage • Every (real) participant gave electric shock to the insiders until 300 voltage… • 65% of them until 450…!! • Be aware: anyne can become „latent naczi” or any kind of racist… (Mainly if we think through, that in the whole world, racisms fight against racisms…
Social psychology Other social impacts Conformism: • Solomon Asch • At least once 74% of the participants adapted, followed the clearly wrong answer • But if they had even just 1 „partner”, it „helped” them significantly to stand by their view!
Social psychology Other social impacts Diffusion of responsibility (Intervention as outsider): Deindividuation(loss of individuality): • Sy is becoming badly on the subway… • Murder in front of a residential block saw through by the residents… • The investigators fracture of leg + 2 kind of insider participant: indifferent (do nothing) / helper attitude • The responsibility is diffused, so the individual responsibility is decreasing – if we know this pheomenon, we can act differently • Ku-Klux Clan • Usually the human mass
Motivation, Emotions Attitude …After thinking, usally we act somehow – but not always the way we planned… Experiment with chinese couple / Milgram effect Attitude’s components: Cognitive - Emotional - Behavioral - What (really) moves our acts, behavior?
Motivation = need, drive – driving force • the body seek/try to keep them around the equilibrium/balance point • Special receptors • Central brain control • Relation with perceptional, thinking processes: eg. Anorexia nervosa (distored self-image), bulimia (self vomiting) Homeostasis • Thirst • Hunger • Thermal control
Motivation Curiosity Drive reduction theory Arousal – „bell curve” Achievement Stress rate Sensory deprivation experiment…:To be without any stimulus is unbearable…!
Motivation Maslow Herzberg Self-realization(„Flow” feeling) Real motivation force Appreciation - Succes Acceptance (of mates) BASIC NEEDS= In itselves aren’t real motivation force:demotivate the lack of them! (Emotional) security Livelihood – phisical security
Motivation Sexuality • Biological base’s – hormones • Early effects – learning • Social effects: „rewards” for the gender proper behavior • Normality - abnormality? What is your opinion about abnormal…? Difference between erotic & „pornographic”…?!
Safe prognostication – appropriate affect You will be able to take adequate actions only if you see through and understand the world around you…!
Analytic-, holistic, system orientated point of view=Bio-psycho-social approach CONSCIOUS LOOKING BEHIND THE SURFACE LOOKING FOR HIDDEN RELATIONSHIPS, CORRESPONDENCESAND IT’S ANALYSIS
MOTIVATION – practicalbenefits: Relationwithperceptional, thinkingprocesses: eg. Anorexia nervosa (distoredself image), bulimia (selfvomiting) Relationwithsocialperception – stereotypes, attributions: as a doctoryou must winthetrust of patientwithradicallydifferentpointofviewfromyourstoo= self-controllyourattitudes…!! Yourownmentalhealth: Keepyour life balance; facilitate, motivatethepatientforit… = workchoice: haveenoughstimulus, thepossibilityfordevelopment, etc…!
