Primary Sports Medicine Team • Athletic Trainer • Most intimately involved with the athlete • Deals with the athlete from initial injury to return to play (1 Day-12 Months) • Roles are: • Prevention • Evaluate • Treat • Rehab • Administration • Counseling and Guidance • Professional Development
Primary Sports Medicine Team • Athlete • Do what is asked of you • Work Hard • Show up everyday • Have a good attitude (Be Positive) • Be Respectful of everyone
Primary Sports Medicine Team • Coach • Is directly responsible for preventing injuries • Teach proper form and technique • Must be 1st aid and CPR certified • Be aware of environmental factors • A COACH SHOULD COACH and let the ATHLETIC TRAINER DO THEIR JOB, have RESPECT for each other!!
Primary Sports Medicine Team • Physician • Ultimately responsible for directing the overall health of the athletes • Athletic Trainer works under the Physician’s supervision • Physician should be an advisor and supervisor to the ATC and the Coach. • They have the final say regarding an injury!!
Physician Continued • Compile Medical Histories, Physicals • Diagnose Injuries • Determine playing status or disqualification • Attend games when possible
